Diabetic Association of India was founded in 1955 by a few doctors and prominent citizens who felt the need to create awareness of diabetes among the public, health care professionals and diabetic patients. Over the last 50 years, the Organisation has grown considerably and has over 12,000 members and 41 branches all over the country.
DIABETES FOUNDATION (INDIA) or DFI was founded by Late Dr M M S Ahuja, Ex Prof and Head, Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and is at present under the stewardship of its President Dr M G Karmarkar, former Head, Department of Laboratory Medicine, AIIMS, its Secretary, Mrs Rekha Sharma, former Chief Nutritionist, AIIMS, Senior Vice President VLCC, and its Scientific Advisor, Dr Anoop Misra, Director and Head.
International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries (ISSN 0973-3930) targets a readership consisting of clinicians, research workers, paramedical personnel, nutritionists and health care personnel working in the field of diabetes.
